i am absolutely sure!

she received approval letter last week and went to court on this wed!
i only can assume, they have different people dealing with piles of application and everyone is working at their own pace.....

did she apply on the basis of having lived here for 5 years or did she apply after 3 years of being married to an Irish citizen?

she applied after 5 years living and working in ireland and she being married exactly 3 years at this time.....stamp 1 for 2 years and stamp 4 for 3 years.....
so i suppose you can apply both criteria's to this situation

Interestingly enough, this document here compiled by the immigrant council seems to suggest that there are two sets of processing times - http://www.immigrantcouncil.ie/pdf/8600 ... nglish.pdf

The one for spouse of irish citizen seems to be in the vicinity of 12-18 months.

this document proved , that there are 2 queues as min....
does not answer thought why ashimashi is waiting for so long.......

at least 1 laughable moment in this doc- "waiting time for LTR 12 months"..... blablabla.......it is at least 24 months now.........

I think there might be other issues here, like gender or original nationality of the applicant. Is your friend from US/Canada/Western Europe by any chance?

Probably the best way is to inquire about it in writing, that way they will have to respond.

I would've sent a letter today straight away, but I sent a letter early this week already on the advice of walrus, asking for an update - don't want to piss them off too much by asking them too many letters at the same time! If anyone gets to find out please share the info!

Latest update from INIS web site:

Applications for naturalisation received in February 2006 are currently being processed.

My friend, who applied end of Jan.06, did receive a letter from the Dept asking him to submit affidavit for Date of Birth.

My friend applied based on 5 years of residency. But, surprisingly, his wife who also applied based on 5 years of residency in 2007, got a letter from the Dept asking her to submit Affidivit & husband payslips, P21 etc.

Both are Non-EU.

i have applied in march 2007 on the basis of 5-years residency and i have got a request for birth and marriage affidavits in june of this year....
i would love to believe in miracle, but i am afraid, that this request does not mean that my papers already in process ...
it could be just new requirements for papers.......

Looks like they have processed the Jan applications between 7th June- 25th Aug. in approximately 2.5 months meaning that the waiting period is at least 31 months.

July 2005 applied for naturalisation after 5 years on work permits
Feb 2008 notified by letter my application was being processed
Feb 2008 returned requested marriage affidavit signed by my solicitor
Aug 2008 (today) told by INIS my application is "with the minister's office". The minister is away so call again in 6 weeks if I've not heard from them.

As if the Minister is personally signing the certificate ! They just don't want to give it & they make lame excuses desperately hoping all immigrants will just vanish after paying taxes for 8 years. We don't have a choice other than to sit on our hands & watch all their gimmicks.

I didn't take a copy Heybabyy. From what I remember it asked me for our marriage details, nationalities, our parents nationalities and places of birth - and had to be signed/stamped by our solicitor.

I sent them a letter a few weeks ago, asking the for update for my application sent on June 07.

They replied to say : "a decision has not been made yet, we will let you know when it is". or basically: "feck off".

I specifically asked them whether it will be processed in the rest of this year (as they said in their initial contact that a decision would be made in 2008). They completely ignored my specific questions and sent a generic reply.

I have yet to send DoJ a letter asking for my status (I applied in Nov. 2005). Main reason I'm holding off is because I know of acquaintances who submitted their applications in July and Aug 2005 and who haven't yet received a decision!

Hi Strongbow

I dont think there is much we can do about it as it is exclusively goverened by mister of justice with no appeals. We are literally at his mercy for the waiting periods and approvals. What hurts me most is that after waiting 8 or more years years if you are turned down due to a minor error on your residence eligibility or taking benefits or a minor civil or criminal case as i have heard . May be they should outline the criteria more clearly atleast that way applications can be made with a prior knowledge of you one should apply or not. Atleast they could facilitate a faster residency for people more then 5 years of the citizenship waititng times are more then 5 years. I applied in august 05 and still no news. Wrote to them and got a responce to wait for some more time (unspecified length). Would really appriciate if anyone who applied in August or Sept or oct 05 can provide any updates if thye have received any descions yet.

Hi Guys,

I've got the same answer, after I've asked for an update last week (I've applied in August 2005).

Basically it looks that we will have to wait at least 4 months more, after the initial 3 years.

The bad thing is that we don't even know if our applications are with the minister yet.
