Long and Complex - UK National - Russian Partner

Right!

I have a Russian gf, she lives in Russia and is a student and works as an English Teacher. Not thats it's relevant but it's not an internet bride thing, she was teaching me Russian since I love the Country and the Language.

Anyway, the facts, sort of chronologically, seems clearest way:

She's 22, been to USA when 14.

Lives with her bro and parents, legally owns a quarter of the flat in full.

Is on year 3 of her 5 year Russian interpreting degree.

Has several jobs teaching English both at a school and privately.

I went to visit her for 3 weeks in Mar 2004

We applied to a British-Russian Education Agency in Jun 2004 and she came to UK on a six month student visa, two week course in really easy English. After the course se stayed with me for just less than three months and returned to her Uni. Of course UK visa folks no nothing of me at this juncture.

I visited her in Russia again for 10 days in Feb 2005.

After 20 months of knowing each other and nightly phone calls (thank u Telediscount 1p a minute!) we now want to take our relationship on. So we thought about it and have formulated this plan.

She's applied for a place at uni local to me, because we both feel UK degree will be more beneficial whether we stay together or not. I've spoken at length to the uni and she will get entry and second or third year if it comes off. Itf it doesn't....

We will marry. I am actually still married but have been separated for 3 years now and we are currently filing the divorce papers (I moved back to England so have to be 'domiciled for 6 months first). Split up amicable, I have kids, no financial issues. We don't particularly want to legally marry, common law is our preference but we realise we might have to do it this way unless we can miraculously prove a two year relationship abroad somehow!!

Plan C is move to Russia. I'm actually quite keen but I have to think of the children. Out of scope for this section of the board really!

So, my questions:

Does her being her for three months on a six month visa but a two week course look suspect? She's not overstayed, or committed any offences. But I wonder if she should have returned directly after the course? Is it ok at this point to say she met me and I at this point effectively sponsored her? Or do I stay out of it? Are they gonna wonder what she did for the extra time and how she supported herself? Or do they not really care too much since she didn't overstay?

If she gets uni place and long term student visa, can we live together? Can I sponsor her or should we kindof meet for the first time at this point as far as immigration is concerned?

If she doesn't get uni place or student visa and we go for fiancee visa, do I need to have decree nisi or absolute or anything? Again, how much of previous relationship is it prudent to admit too? We have emails, photos her and Russia, tickets, visa stamps etc. Or will the authorities put two and two together and realise I was in the picture before and during her stay here? Any again, do they really care?

She speaks great and idiomatic English, knows all about the kids and loves them too! She knows the birthdays and all that, which is more than I do! They love her too and are looking forward to having her with us, whichever way it turns out.

Thats all i can think of for the moment, hope someone can advise on likely outcomes. I hear so many anecdotal stories about not admitting to this, not admitting to that. I prefer totally honesty since we've committed no visa fraud or broken any laws or been a drain on public funds but I also know how fickle and aggressive the Visa officials can be, esp in Russia

Thanks

Spouse visa! I didn't know about that one! Thanks to this site I do now!

Woud that be a good option for me assuming I'm divorced? Marry in Russia, Orthodox Church, I'd love that.

Seems if we do it that way she can work if she wants, and she does, which is nice :)

I wonder then if she would be elligible for local uni fees instead of the enormous overseas student fees?

Thanks
