Working in ROI as non EEA national with UK Pre Settled Status (spouse)

Hello,

I've tried asking citizens advice for the answer to this question, but the lady said she couldn't help me cause she didn't understand what UK Pre-Settled status was.

I am living in Northern Ireland with my husband who is considered both British and Irish. I have Pre Settled status so I am able to live and work in the UK. I am wondering if this allows me to work in Ireland even though I am living in Northern Ireland. I live five minutes from the border and it is much easier for me to find work in the next closest town with falls in the ROI.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Citizen Advise Bureau is run mainly by volunteers. They don't know a lot of about immigration.

The EU Settlement Scheme is valid within the UK only. It doesn't allow you to seek work outside even if it's only "5 minutes" from the border.

You would need to move to ROI and obtain a specific work permit there. The EU Settlement Scheme doesn't give you any right in Republic of Ireland.

Presettled status in the UK gives you no rights to live or work in Ireland. If you're a visa required national you can't even legally driver over the border.

As a Canadian you can drive to Rep of Ireland as a visitor, but not as a worker. The pre-settled status does not mean anything in Ireland.

To be legally employed in Ireland as a non-EU national, you will need to apply for an employment permit in Ireland.
