Can anyone who's successfully received their passport confirm whether I have to send my original passport in with my application? Or is a certified copy ok?

On the ID verification form it says, "Please note: If resident outside of the State, certified copies of ID are accepted. A copy can be certifed by a police officer, a solicitor, the witness who signs your Identity Verifcation Form, or by the issuing authority."

Then later it asks for "Original passport from country of birth"

I was wondering that too. If memory serves, there were several people from June 2019. I expected to wait at least another 1-2 months. My case was straightforward -- no red flags or clarifications, but I suspect that's true for many.

I made a colour photocopy of my British passport and got my witness to sign it and stamp it et and sent it off to Ireland. I've had confirmation that they've posted my Irish passport back to me now so there were no problems with sending a notarised copy.

Just been on the webchat because it turns out it's still open at this time on a Friday afternoon and they said there's no holdup or problem with the application or anything, and it's progressing through the system. Not sure why it's taken so long in that case.

A witnessed copy is fine, I sent my documents earlier this year and received my Irish passport back without problem. Do note that your supporting documents are held by the DFA for 4 weeks after your passport is dispatched.

I mailed my application in late February and the documents arrived in early March according to USPS. I have not received an email acknowledging their receipt. However, the FAQs on the website indicate that no email will be sent for receipt of documents. So perhaps the policy has recently changed?

I am still trying to connect with webchat, every time I try the agents are busy.

I have a vague recollection of that when I was waiting for my passport (I was stuck in the Brexit rush) and used to prowl through here. I did start going back to collect data but there was such an obvious impact on wait from Covid I didn't see any point in just highlighting to myself that it would all have been done if I'd been a bit more on the ball!

There are probably lots of factors to consider, I daresay some applications are more straightforward than others, people whose grandparents did have birth registrations, for example. In my imagination I can also see variation just because they are paper applications and the way they work through them. When you think about the volume and the delay it's probably impossible to keep them all in strict date order and I can see how they might just have, say, a box that gets filled and when the time comes to process there's a bit of randomness on when your's gets pulled out.

If my math is correct then Day 469 for me would be this Thursday Oct 8th. My guesstimate-- just from what I've read on this thread-- has had me thinking just after Oct 20th. The wait continues......!!

Yes, I received email from noreply@dfat.ie a day after the documents were confirmed as delivered by Royal Mail and An Post. That was around 5 weeks ago.

"Your application for Irish citizenship through entry on the Foreign Births Register has now been received.

Information in relation to current processing timelines can be found on our webpage www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abroad/regi ... ign-birth/

Please do not reply to this email as it is auto-generated."

The tracking number shows some activity now: the package left Dublin Mail Centre on Saturday morning. Hoping it will arrive in Oregon this week. The Guinness is waiting.

Long time lurker. Figured I'd put my info in the queue to help gauge timelines I actually submitted my online application and paid my fee in March 2019, but I didn't get around to submitting my docs until December 2019. I attached an explanation letter with my documents to clarify that none of the information had changed since my online application, and it hasn't seemed to cause any issues yet.
