School visa and parent's visa

Post by dodav » Tue Oct 06, 2020 11:54 am

Hello I really hope you can offer some advice.

My fiance has a UK visitor visa (12 months left) and her daughter has been offered a place at an independent school in the UK.

She wants her to start at the school at either the spring half term or, the latest, easter.

She would like to be here for the first few months to ensure the transition works out. If she applies for her daughter's student visa, will she be able to travel here on her own visitor visa or does she need the parent of a student visa?

Many thanks
Dave

Hello

She can't hold a Tier 4 + a visitor visa at the same time.

She can come with visitor visa then leave the country and apply for Tier 4 just in time to start her studies.

If mother is only staying for a few months (less than six months) and departs prior to expiry of her visitor visa, then I think her current visitor visa will be okay.

I think a parent of a child student visa is intended for parents who wish to stay with their under 12 year old child for a period of up to 12 months.

Parent of a Tier 4 (child) student
Where this is a short term arrangement, they can use the visit routes rather than the Parent of a Tier 4 (Child) route
