Questions about travelling abroad - spouse visa

Post by hassaant » Sun Nov 01, 2020 3:06 pm

Hi, sorry of this has been asked before.
My wife is here on spouse visa and we are a little confused on whether she can travel outside the UK or not?
She has an iraqi passport and of course the spouse visa ID card.
What are the restrictions, if any, on travelling?
Can she go back to Iraq for a visit?
How long is she allowed to be abroad for per trip?
Can she make as many trips as she likes?
Should we expect any issues or questions in the airport when she returns to the UK?
Any official statements on this from the home office would be helpful (I tried searching but only found info that was even more confusing).
Advice and guidance will be greatly appreciated

Hi
i could be wrong on the numbers but

i think per year its no more than 90 days outside of the country
and in 5 years its something like 455 days outside of the country.

i have this same question because, my wife would like to go home for a few months at a time but we dont want to jeopardise her visa.

Can she make as many trips as she likes? Yes, no limit
Should we expect any issues or questions in the airport when she returns to the UK? None that will be negative or cause problem to reentry

Thanks AmazonianX, that's very helpful.
One more question... as my wife had a stamp on her Iraqi passport giving her 30 days to enter the UK when she first entered. Will she need a new stamp, proof or paperwork to prove she is allowed to enter the UK after coming back from her trip abroad? Or will showing her spouse visa ID card be enough for passport control?

She will be fine as long as she got Biometric Residence Permit (Visa ID card). That’s her ‘visa’ to enter UK for 2.5 years.
