return tick necessary for immigration desk on student visa?

Post by *rini* » Sat Sep 13, 2008 3:02 am

Hi,

I'm sorry if this sounds a little dumb but I just wanted to clarify something...

I have been issued a student visa and will be travelling to london next week... the last couple of times i was in london, i was on a multiple entry 6 month visit visa and both times i was asked to present my return ticket at immigration.

My visit visa has since expired and my student visa is valid till Jan 10 2010... As such, am i expected to again carry a return ticket as proof that I will return to my home country or am i good to go with a one way ticket???

Do let me know.. and thank u very much in advance! :)

rini

p.s: Not really important, but i'm just curious.. my last visit visa just had "Visa" embossed as a header.. this time my student visa reads ' entry clearance'? are these just fancy tags or is there more??
ty :)

You will not be expected to have a return ticket. Ironically it might be cheaper to buy a return rather than a one way ticket.

Visit is what is says, entry clearance allows you a period of stay. In your case until 2010. The student visa has specific conditions that include allowing you limited time to work 20 hours per week etc.
A visit visa allows you to do nothing apart from wander around the UK - visiting people, places funnily enough!!

Hope your studies go well.
