Germany work visa and work permit - confused

Post by Bleen » Tue Sep 16, 2008 8:43 pm

Hello :-)

I was wondering if anyone has any idea about this, cause I'm really confused...

I'm an Argentinean national working in the US under a student visa (with a work permit). My work permit expires on December so my company decided to transfer me to the German headquarters for a year or so until they can send me back here.

Now, my start date in Germany would be January the 15th. My employer told me they have the German work permit already, and since I'm Argentinean I don't need a visa to get in, that I'll just have to go to the authorities to register my residence and get my visa.
This is all fine and dandy, except I'm really worried about how much time it would take for my visa to be ready once I'm over there. They told me it'll take 1 day, but I've read online it takes 3 months!

I guess my worry is, if I arrive in Germany without any visa on January 8th, can I be working by January 15th?

Thanks a lot for the help!

Sounds all plausible IF, big IF, the German Work Permit IS ready. ISTR my gf having a lot of input into hers, filling forms in etc, but before her permit was ready it went all over Germany for stamps....
