EEA Naturalisation without waiting 1 year after settlement (partner recently received Citizenship)

Post by laplace345 » Fri Dec 11, 2020 1:49 pm

Hello everyone,

My partner and I are EEA nationals. She just applied for British Citizenship as an EEA national. I'm living in the UK for almost 5 years and I will get the settlement status in a few months.

Would I be able to apply via naturalization without waiting the extra year after getting the settlement if my partner becomes a British Citizen?

If you don't have the answer, do you know where I could find it?

Thank you!

If you have settled status and your spouse becomes British (i.e. attends the ceremony not approval only), you can apply for British Citizenship right away. No need to wait 1 year.
