Hi
I'm hoping someone can advise I came to the UK as a child, ever since I have been living with my auntie. I am now 24 and will be putting in an an application for ILR and then will apply for naturalisation after 1 year
However I think I've got myself in a sticky situation which I wasn't aware of, I live alone with my auntie but the council tax is only in her name and she is getting 25% single occupancy discount. its been like this for many years!
I am not claiming any benefits, I work full time and my auntie was bringing me up, paying the bills and looking after me
I want to inform the council but if this is backdated to when i was 18 it will cost me thousands to pay back!
Shall i inform the council or keep quiet?
What would be the best course of action?
Will this affect my ILR application and my subsequent naturalisation application?

Non-payment of council tax is a civil issue and has no effect on ILR. Do not complicate your life and apply for ILR.

Hi Zimba, thanks for the reassurance, how about when it comes to naturalisation? Could it fall under failure of good character? I do not want to give the home office any excuse to refuse me.
From what I've read the home office do a alot of background checks, is council tax one of them?
Thanks

You do not need to complicate your life. If you want to report anything, simply inform them you started living there and the discount should be cancelled. That is all.

Tell them you moved in and the discount has to be cancelled. That is all. No other info needs to be disclosed. This has NO influence on your life if you choose not to complicate things

Are you suggesting fraud?
Is it you who has deleted all the other emails explaining why this is fraud and how the OP can best resolve this?
As I have already said, the council will ask where he has lived before and want proof of that. He can't say he wasn't in the UK because he is apply for ILR.

My advice is that he should not complicate his life. I also pointed out before that council tax is a CIVIL issue and has no effect on the ILR.
On the other hand, you have a long habit of writing a lot of nonsense on these topics and speared fear for applicants. Almost every response on the forum from you about how everyone is a fraud and will be found out and sent off to the gulag. There is no reason for many to complicate their lives and your claims of how everyone is a fraud and a cheat, who will soon to be punished, is totally nonsensical.
