Police Regsistration Issue

Post by santiagopoli_ » Tue Jan 19, 2021 4:22 pm

Hey,

I'm an Argentinian living in the UK with a Tier 2 Visa. I recently applied to the settlement scheme since my wife is Italian and I need to provide my biometrics in a few days. However, I have a problem:

I've arrived to the UK during the Pandemic, so I needed to self-isolate for 14 days, and then the second lockdown kicked in. That means that I wasn't able to register with the police (which is required for my type of Visa). That's not a problem because the OVRO page states that if you weren't able to book an appointment during times in which the office was closed (or because of self-isolation), you are good.

The problem is that I know for a fact that OVRO was open between the second and third lockdown and I forgot to register with the Police during that period. I don't have a valid excuse for not doing it, I just forgot. Now OVRO is closed again, so I can't do it.

I'm really scared because they will probably deny my settlement scheme. And more importantly, my Visa can be shortened / cancelled because of this.

What should I do? The police wasn't very helpful.

You are not the only person who has failed to register with the police, and yet has been granted further visas and permits without further consequences.

The general advice for this is to register with the police as soon as possible. It does not have to be your local police.

I went to my local police station and they said that ALL police registrations are made via OVRO (https://www.met.police.uk/advice/advice ... -register/) which is closed right now. I can check in another police station just to be sure.

BTW thanks!

You can always go ahead and apply without. In any case, they will always tell you if you need to upload additional documents; if that happens, you can start explaining. If not, then not an issue.
