ILR LR questions

Post by hlstn » Thu Feb 04, 2021 1:33 pm

Hello,

I'm in the process of applying for ILR Long Residence and I wondered if there is any specific advice for the questions:

Do you have any family in your country of birth, nationality or any other country where you have lived for more than 5 years?

For this, I am assuming it is family that know and speak to like my parents and my sister. Am I expected to list cousins I've never met etc? There isn't a huge amount of room in this box

Do you have any friends in your country of birth, nationality or any other country where you have lived for more than 5 years?

For this, how many friends and what type of friends am I supposed to list? I have friends whom I chat with online from childhood and visit when I go back to the states, but how many friends is one meant to have?

Are you part of any social groups or do you have other cultural ties in your country of birth, nationality or any other country where you have lived for more than 5 years?

With this question, my immediate inclination is to say no, at which point it asks why not? For my case I moved to the UK in my early 20s for grad school and have lived the majority of my adult life in the UK, so I don't know what sort of social groups it means?

Am curious what people's opinions are on these questions and what sort of advice people have on how to answer them?

Any thoughts would be great. -Heidi

Crown Dependencies question

Post by hlstn » Thu Feb 04, 2021 2:03 pm

I'm filling out my ILR LR application and there is this question?

Have you spent any part of your 10-year continuous period with leave to enter or remain in the Crown Dependencies?

And the option is yes or no, and at no point have I been asked for further information. There also doesn't seem to be a section for my application about absences from the UK like other are discussing.

I have been to the Isle of Man, I've been on three trips there for work related field work trips all taking less than a week. How am I supposed to answer this question?

These are generic questions and not very important. No need to list any names. Just answer as it is briefly.

Just answer as it is. I hope you are filling the correct form. As long the form is correct no issues. You will be submitting your passport(s) including stamps covering last 10 years to prove residence.

But it specifically says after both the friends and family question:

"List their names, where they live, how you are related to them, and what type of contact you have with them" and allows for 500 characters in the box.

If it asks list 1-2 names just to bypass the question. These questions have no relevance to SET(LR).

What are social groups and social networks?

Family ties would satisfy both cultural and social ties. Answer truthfully.

If refused, then bear in mind following observations?

117
The first is the severity of the difficulties and suffering that CI would potentially face if sent to Nigeria. There is a material difference between returning an immigrant to a country with which he retains some social and cultural ties and deporting him to a country with which he has none and which, in the words of CI's sister in this case, "is as foreign to us as China". The harshness of such deportation is magnified in the present case to the extent that it could be considered cruel by the evidence of the devastating impact that it would have upon CI's mental health.
and 33, etc.
