Why a 4years work permit ???

Post by Cynaparo » Sat Sep 27, 2008 3:18 pm

I did my Overseas Nurses Programme and i've been qualified as a Registered Nurse in the uk. A nursing home applied for a work permit for me and instead of having a 5year work permit like all of my friends doing the course had, i had only a 4year work permit. For me it's weird as everyone i knew even the people who applied after me,not from the same nursing home, got a 5 year work permit. Should the nursing home apply for a new work permit after 4 years or should it apply for indefinite leave as remain and during those 4 years am i allowed to travel abroad ?? Thanks for any suggestion and answers.[/b]

It is 5 years for ILR (based on current rules) so any application made at 4 years would almost certainly be refused.

I can only suggest that you and your employer contact the HO asking why you were only given four years when everyone else who applied at/around the same time as you and who works for the same employer has been given 5 years (if that is indeed the case).

Yes, of course you can travel abroad, but make sure you do not have any long absences (except for compelling reasons).
