Right of Abode Certificate of Entitlement for Minor

Post by tigertroop » Mon Feb 22, 2021 12:22 pm

Hi Folks,

I was recently granted a Certificate of Entitlement for Right of Abode in my Indian passport.

I have few questions:
1. There is a 6 digit numeric number under the valid until date. Does that signify anything - could that be a registration or home office reference number?

2. In the observation section it says - Section 2(1)(a). Would that be section 2 (1) (a) of 1971 immigration act?

3. If I want to bring my daughter to the UK, will my daughter born in India in 2014 qualify for COE ROA or will she have to apply for a Family visa?

1. It’s probably the CoE-RoA’s unique serial/reference number.

2. Section 2(1)
(a) he is a British citizen
signifies that you are a British citizen.

3. If your daughter is automatically British, then she may also apply for a CoE-RoA.

If you were issued a CoE-RoA in an Indian passport, are you a British citizen by descent (when and where were you born)? Or did you acquire your British citizenship by either registration or naturalisation?

If the latter, I am surprised that you were not asked to surrender your Indian passport, as your Indian citizenship would have automatically lapsed on acquisition of a foreign citizenship after birth.

If you yourself are a British citizen by descent, your daughter is not eligible for a CoE-RoA in her own right if she was born after 1983.
