BRP fingerprints problem at Gatwick

Post by frankin5 » Mon Feb 22, 2021 11:31 am

On 6 December 2020 Border Force officer at Gatwick Airport was unable to verify fingerprints of my wife, who was entering in the UK after her first short trip abroad with new BRP (ILR/spouse).

She was finally allowed to enter, but the officer said that biometric data was "not attached" and she should contact Home Office.

It has been two and a half months since she contacted Home Office using the link gov uk/biometric-residence-permits/report-problem, selected to be contacted by email, but they still have not responded.

What would you advise her to do in this situation? Is it safe to travel using the current BRP that presumably has a problem?

Hello

No it's not safe to travel with it as when she comes back, she may face the same issue again.

Wait for the Home Office to respond or report it again. They are slow in everything these days.

There is no reason to avoid travel other than the circumstances around general travel in COVID. The BRP may well not have the biometric details embedded but that does not invalidate the BRP. It will however cause the same issue when you return to the UK.

So you have to weigh up the hassle factor on return versus your need to travel. If you do decide to travel take a copy of your communication with the BRP team.
