Need to declare old US speeding tickets?

Post by swibby » Wed May 19, 2021 11:28 am

Hello gurus

I'm a US citizen applying to naturalize in the UK after receiving ILR etc. I'm at the portion of the application about declaring any convictions or other penalties.

I don't have any criminal record but I have received two speeding tickets in my life. I'd be happy to declare them, but the problem is I received them ages ago - sometime between 2007-2011 when I was at Uni in California. That's long enough ago that I have no idea of the specific dates or the details at this point other than recalling I took traffic school after the 2nd one.

I'm having a very hard time looking up the details of the tickets (no luck using the relevant county court search system), so I'm not sure what to do.

Do I need to declare these on my application? I suppose a final resort is calling the relevant court in California and hoping they can look up the details.

In case it's relevant - I'm pretty certain these were not mentioned on past visa applications or my ILR application.

You can always mention them and explain you don't have or remember the details - however, they would not impact your application, whether issued in the UK or abroad. Personally I wouldn't be concerned, you could not be refused for those.

Thanks for your reply. When you say wouldn't be concerned, do you mean I should just mention them and explain I don't know the details or not bother mentioning them?

Just mention tickets and explain that you don't have/remember the details.
