Age limit for work visa in the UK?

Post by binuviju » Sun Jul 04, 2021 6:51 pm

Hi

Would you be able to help me please?
I'm a 43 year old professional with about 17 years of experience. I'm planning to go to the UK on a student visa now. I'm an Indian.
Is there an age limit for
1. International students to apply for study visas in the UK?
2. Applying for a work visa once I finish an years course ?
3. Renewing the work visa after three years?
4. Applying for ILR after five years?

Thank you
B

I suspect that any age requirement would fall foul of discrimination laws on the grounds of the protected characteristic of age and hence is unlikely, but I have no knowledge in this field and I suggest that you wait for others to respond.

What I will comment on are a couple of other questions.

Keep in mind that if you are hired by a UK based company, you will be eligible for ILR after five years of residing in the UK on that work visa. Your stay in the UK on a student visa will not count towards the five years requirement for ILR.

You have not mentioned if you have any dependents. Factor in the costs of their visas and the IHS for them as well when planning ahead.

Lastly, keep in mind that it is nigh on impossible to sponsor anybody other than your spouse and children. So factor in that your parents and siblings, etc, will not be able to move to the UK based on your visa, not even after you become a British citizen.

Apart from these caveats, the best of British to your plans.
