FLR (FP) 10 years extensiin

Hi Everyone, We are going to extend FLR(FP) application ( my son spent more than 7 years in the UK) 10 year route with out solicitor. i have few question if any one can help.

My son is now 17 years old - Who is the main applicant for the FLR (FP) application? last time my solicitor put my wife as the main applicant ( she got a degree in the UK)

Whats the minimum income i should show and how many months bank statements i should submit and should i get the original statements or online statements are sufficient

My solicitor usually submits covering letter. is it necessary? or can i just submit the application.
