My understanding is old residence card are valid until expiry. That is the current position of their ever changing policy.

Correct.

The conundrum is on the fact that if you applied to replace a EEA card, it is technically made invalid when the new EUSS card is issued. The previous message seems to indicate that is not the case.

This is important for people who applied to replace old but still valid EEA cards before it was announced they would not expired on 30th June 2021; and are now left waiting months to get a new card issued, unsure if they can travel with the old one or not (because what if the new card is issued while abroad, can one come back to the UK with the old one?).

This seems to clarify that using the old card, even when a new one has been issued, is still technically possible.

If the Home Office is invalidating Residence card during transition period, then that is unlawful.
As a person can have UK residence card in tandem with other residence card.

I have just received confirmation from APAD that my replacement card has been issued.

As promised, I have just checked on the HO website if I can still prove my status with my current/old EEA RC. The result is as expected: my Settled Status shows up after typing my EEA RC number, which means my electronic status is indeed still linked to the EEA RC even after a new card has been issued.
