Hey guys, about to start this. I should have started last year really but was waiting for my Father to get his documents back from his passport application which he just got back..

Is there a way to fast track this for a business requirement? I am willing to pay anything.

I am going to get a witness and send my docs in anyway, as I really do not want to wait another day.

In a nutshell, no. There are rare cases that can be expedited, for example expectant or stateless persons but otherwise you will just have to wait. The Irish Civil Service are currently focussed on the passport backlog so even if they get rid of that and then throw more manpower at FBR, you're probably still looking at a year or more in the queue. Regarding written documents, the FBR website (https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... eign-birth) is still requesting that applicants do not send in any paperwork while their offices are not fully up & running.

Sadly you are realistically looking at an approx 2 year wait time from your docs being received in Ireland. Mines were sent in March 2020, I’ve had confirmation that they were received by the FBR office but I’ve not heard a peep from them since. I’m sort of guessing March 2022 going by other ppls wait times

My FBR certificate arrived this Saturday and I have already sent off my application for a passport. Hope this takes significantly less time to be processed.

RE the forum, from what I can see there is an issue with the SSL (Security) Certificate. For me, it works on laptop, but not on mobile. It probably got corrupted when they were updating the site. Has anyone tried contacting the webmaster?

I'm still waiting for the congrats/approval email (applied 3 months earlier than you, just got the address confirmation email this morning), but I'd also be wary of sending them my passport.

The DFA passport website seems to say that we can send a certified copy of a driver's license:

or a certified (by a solicitor or notary public) copy of your driver’s license

This is faster than getting a new social security card to send them (and much easier replacing a recent US passport). The passport backlog and 26 months and counting wait for the FBR leave me unwilling to trust their first time passport target of 8 weeks with my only original passport or original social security card. I might see about getting a second social security card.

I sent a reply email to them today confirming no change to my address, they haven't replied to that yet.

I think that's a sensible decision. Anyone who's read through your post history will see that you've had many different problems with the Irish FBR process, including having had your application rejected. Once you've realised something isn't going to work, the best course of action is usually to cut your losses, make a different plan and move on.

I sent a reply email to them today confirming no change to my address, they haven't replied to that yet.

Im in same boat - last communication was early August. Still waiting for congrats email (or at least receiving it he cert). Strangely enough, many people got the email, then congrats then received the cert within 2 weeks window. I sent them an email again but nobody answered.

Spoke to passport office today and when I asked when the FBR processing is restarting the response was ‘it is not part of the passport office they work in a different building’ and even though they are no COVID restrictions with regards to the processing they are not! It is an excuse they have taken the resources away and have no commitment to honouring their responsibilities to the processing of applicants and Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956
Is being disposed of by the DFA foreign ministry.

Great News I got the email asking for address confirmation!

It came into my junk email box a week ago! Check your spam!!
this is what the email said:

I am pleased to inform you that your application for entry into the Foreign Births Register will be approved shortly. A Foreign Birth Registration Certificate and your original documents will be returned to you by registered post, which will require a signature on delivery.


To ensure these documents are dispatched to the correct address you should confirm your address by return email. If you have moved address since you completed your application you should provide a scanned copy of proof of that new address, e.g. original utility bills, bank statements, government correspondence.


Your application will not be approved until you confirm your address

Yes I have to agree. I read through maishun's 46 posts & they are very confusing & complex from names missing on birth certificates, ages not being accurate, missing birth certificate, to claiming FBR expediation due to pregnancy, claiming being added to the FBR then application being rejected. I would probably just quit.

My Grandfather was born in County Donegal in 1894 and emigrated to Australia in 1923.
I've read all instructions but its still a bit unclear.
From what I have read I should be eligible to apply and I have all the relevant document including his original Birth Certificate.
It says now you can only apply on line - so how do the documents get witnessed - do you upload copies of your photos and IDs?
Further the Grandparent Tab doesn't open, I can only get to parent tab, and that doesn't seem relevant as my mother was born in Australia - but it asks for her FRB details, and she hasn't done an FRB. She's only relevant here from the perspective of establish the link to my Grandfather. Or does she need to be registered as well?

You apply online but send all the original/certified physical documents to Ireland. You get the physical printed out documents witnessed by the relevant person. Your Irish grandfathers child (your mother) is already an Irish citizen.
You, the applicant, on the FBR page must select that your Parent is "born abroad to a person born in Ireland" then continue the application.

They will expedite your application due to the pregnancy. How quickly depends on personal circumstances. Contact the passport office through webchat and have you application details on hand. They will advise next steps.
