In a nutshell, no. There are rare cases that can be expedited, for example expectant or stateless persons but otherwise you will just have to wait. The Irish Civil Service are currently focussed on the passport backlog so even if they get rid of that and then throw more manpower at FBR, you're probably still looking at a year or more in the queue. Regarding written documents, the FBR website (https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... eign-birth) is still requesting that applicants do not send in any paperwork while their offices are not fully up & running.busking wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 11:47 amHey guys, about to start this. I should have started last year really but was waiting for my Father to get his documents back from his passport application which he just got back..
Is there a way to fast track this for a business requirement? I am willing to pay anything.
I am going to get a witness and send my docs in anyway, as I really do not want to wait another day.
I figured this was the case really, but thought I would ask incase anyone had a particular case.MikeyMike wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 3:31 pmIn a nutshell, no. Sadly you are realistically looking at an approx 2 year wait time from your docs being received in Ireland. Mines were sent in March 2020, I’ve had confirmation that they were received by the FBR office but I’ve not heard a peep from them since. I’m sort of guessing March 2022 going by other ppls wait timesbusking wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 5:30 pmI figured this was the case really, but thought I would ask incase anyone had a particular case.MikeyMike wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 3:31 pmIn a nutshell, no. I read a few pages back that things could open on the 22nd, so let's see if there was any truth in the rumour. I will still get a witness to sign some documents regardless. Glad to find this forum of others seeking the same goal anyway.![]()
Congratulations! I am a long time lurker (like, literally years lurking as you can see below) and I am just behind you with awaiting my certificate before applying for my passport. Can I just ask if you had to send in your original UK passport with your application for first Irish passport as per the guidance on the DFA website? That bit is worrying me a bit as I will be without any form of passport. Or did you do a photocopy?Gingerillo wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 8:39 pmMy FBR certificate arrived this Saturday and I have already sent off my application for a passport. Hope this takes significantly less time to be processed.
RE the forum, from what I can see there is an issue with the SSL (Security) Certificate. For me, it works on laptop, but not on mobile. It probably got corrupted when they were updating the site. Has anyone tried contacting the webmaster?
sent mine over a couple weeks ago.Ella50 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 12:26 pmHi, I recently submitted my information online and made payment but my documents are still with me. I heard that the office might open on the 22nd. Though the website says don't send documents now, I am wondering if I should just go ahead and send them registered? Could anyone advise?
I'm still waiting for the congrats/approval email (applied 3 months earlier than you, just got the address confirmation email this morning), but I'd also be wary of sending them my passport.Don Dragon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 2:58 pm

As for my timeline for others benefit:
Application submitted online: 12/11/2019
Email acknowledging receipt of documentation Balbriggan: 18/11/2019
Confirmation of address email: 06/10/2021
Congrats email: 17/10/2021
FBR certificate received: N/A
This is faster than getting a new social security card to send them (and much easier replacing a recent US passport). The passport backlog and 26 months and counting wait for the FBR leave me unwilling to trust their first time passport target of 8 weeks with my only original passport or original social security card. I might see about getting a second social security card.or a certified (by a solicitor or notary public) copy of your driver’s license
Hello, you email them, FBR reply to your email?Angelo_2019 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:30 pmI'll wait until I get the FBR, but I got the address confirmation email today
10 August 2019 - On line applicaton
19 August 2019 - Documents received
21 October 2021 Address Confirmation email (Team 2)
Still waiting for final approval of FBR and physical certificate. (Seems like it would be more efficient for them to give it directly to the Passport department instead of mailing it to me and making me mail it back.)
I sent the application in August 2019 and waited 26 months - I did not email them.maishun wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:19 pmHello, you email them, FBR reply to your email?Angelo_2019 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:30 pmI'll wait until I get the FBR, but I got the address confirmation email today

I think that's a sensible decision. Anyone who's read through your post history will see that you've had many different problems with the Irish FBR process, including having had your application rejected. Once you've realised something isn't going to work, the best course of action is usually to cut your losses, make a different plan and move on.maishun wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 12:30 amHello everyone, I'm ready to give up. The waiting time is too painful. I once planned to join the Irish army after obtaining Irish nationality. Now I have waited too long. I can only learn French. I will join the army in France next year and then naturalize in France
Im in same boat - last communication was early August. Still waiting for congrats email (or at least receiving it he cert). Strangely enough, many people got the email, then congrats then received the cert within 2 weeks window. I sent them an email again but nobody answered.Angelo_2019 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 1:38 amI sent the application in August 2019 and waited 26 months - I did not email them.maishun wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 11:19 pmHello, you email them, FBR reply to your email?Angelo_2019 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 21, 2021 8:30 pmI'll wait until I get the FBR, but I got the address confirmation email today

I sent a reply email to them today confirming no change to my address, they haven't replied to that yet.
Yes I have to agree. I read through maishun's 46 posts & they are very confusing & complex from names missing on birth certificates, ages not being accurate, missing birth certificate, to claiming FBR expediation due to pregnancy, claiming being added to the FBR then application being rejected. I would probably just quit.BrexitEscapee wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 9:05 amI think that's a sensible decision. Goodbye, and good luck with your plans for French naturalisation.
You apply online but send all the original/certified physical documents to Ireland. You get the physical printed out documents witnessed by the relevant person. Your Irish grandfathers child (your mother) is already an Irish citizen.irishgrandpa wrote: ↑Sat Oct 23, 2021 2:59 pmMy Grandfather was born in County Donegal in 1894 and emigrated to Australia in 1923.
I've read all instructions but its still a bit unclear.
From what I have read I should be eligible to apply and I have all the relevant document including his original Birth Certificate.
It says now you can only apply on line - so how do the documents get witnessed - do you upload copies of your photos and IDs?
Further the Grandparent Tab doesn't open, I can only get to parent tab, and that doesn't seem relevant as my mother was born in Australia - but it asks for her FRB details, and she hasn't done an FRB. She's only relevant here from the perspective of establish the link to my Grandfather. Or does she need to be registered as well?
They will expedite your application due to the pregnancy. How quickly depends on personal circumstances. Contact the passport office through webchat and have you application details on hand. They will advise next steps.mari1234 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 8:27 amHi everyone! I submitted my application form in March 2021, so not long ago compared to some! I’ve been dutifully waiting to send my supporting docs from the UK since. My case is a relatively straightforward one, I think. Irish granddad born in 1916 with all docs present and correct.
I’ve just found out I’m pregnant and ideally I’d love to be able to give my children Irish citizenship. We’re also considering a move there in future. Is it completely impossible that I’ll receive it in time do you think? They’re still saying 12-18 months on their website but from everyone’s experiences here that seems like complete fiction. I read somewhere that expectant applicants might be able to expedite and while I don’t want to jump the queue I’m a bit stuck! Is that an option?
