Naturalisation ceremony

Post by mellowfellow » Sat Nov 13, 2021 4:27 am

Hello everyone

I applied to naturalise 7 Sept, submitted biometrics 4 Oct and received Home office approval email 8 Nov

Its been difficult getting through to my designated council (via the telephone) to arrange/book my ceremony. I sent an email and the response suggests that I would be contacted by said council, upon receipt of my certificate (from the Home Office) following which I can then book my ceremony.

My question is this: What is the typical waiting time for this? I was told by someone that it is usually within 48hrs of the Home Office's notification but it has been 5 days.

Secondly, can I apply for a passport on the same day after the ceremony?

Yes you can - as you will be British then.

Depending on distance, try popping over to their offices in person. Not all council offices will be open or accessible to the public, but it is worth a try.

And yes, you can apply for a British passport on the same day as your (physical) citizenship ceremony as you will receive your naturalisation certificate at the ceremony. If you have a virtual ceremony, you may have to wait until you receive the naturalisation certificate by post.
