British Passport Application -No notification

Hi

I have applied for renewal of my mother's British passport from India(by Post mail) on 10th November and din't hear anything so far .It's been a month, No enquiry, no call or questions from HMPO so far.
Is it normal?
I just got ref number in email from my mom's local VSF center. Not sure where to check status of her application.
The passport fee was deducted from my account approx 20 days ago.
What should I expect if someone can help me with understanding the process.

Note: This passport is being renewed after decades and also my mom has changed her name since then and she has attached all supporting evidence required those were mentioned on Passport Form.
