British Citizenship Requirements (Jersey resident)

Post by elpidiovaldez5 » Thu Feb 03, 2022 3:22 pm

My unmarried partner is applying for British Citizenship in Jersey, where we live.

She has had ILR for more than 1 year, was present in Jersey 5 years ago and has passed the English Language and Life in the UK tests.

The Jersey forms ask for current bank statements - why is this ? Is there any financial requirement for British Citizenship, and if so, how much ?

What is the basis of the applicant's ILR?

If they acquired ILR on the basis of being related to an EEA citizen, then the applicant needs to prove that they have been resident in the UK (or in Jersey in this case) for the past five years, without relying on passport stamps (because as the family member of an EEA citizen, their passports would not have been stamped).

So it is likely that that is the reason for the request for bank statements.

She is Cuban, and got ILR on the basis of spending 5 years in Jersey with an unmarried, British partner. She has now completed a further year in jersey, free of immigration restrictions. As far as I can see she is now eligible to apply for British citizenship without depending on the relationship. There are stamps in her passport from all the times we went to Cuba on holiday during the past 6 years - does that prove residence ? She already had to prove residence in Jersey to get the ILR.

In that case, I am not sure.

There is no financial requirement for British citizenship.

Could you post a link to the Jersey citizenship form and if possible, the page number that requests the bank statements?

The Jersey form is here. The requirement for bank statements is on page 3 (form J2).
