Can my wife come to uk on visitor visa for few months

i just got married recently in India and just wondering if i can get my wife to uk for few months on visitor visa , I am aware the usual route is spouse visa but given the significant delays we want to get a visitor visa and then return to India again in 6 months and apply for spouse visa.


As per the rules i checked , family is allowed to visit uk on visitor visa and wife will be classed as family.

You are correct. However note that this can be seen by the immigration authority as a means of circumventing the process as being a newly married wife to a British Citizen or resident wherein she arrives UK on visitor visa and then make an in country application.

We dont intend to circumvent any rules ,infact one will need to turn to India to apply for spouse visa as a 6 month visitor cannot be converted to spouse visa withink uk as per rules.

That's a statement from you which we may both agree on. My earlier supposition is from the perspective of HO and iutcome of some applicants. Your decision to make however if you can line your ducks up and shoot for the spouse visa at once may stand you in good stead.

Recent posts show there are significant delays even for visit visa in India...You may better go for spouse visa straightaway.

Think about it from a UKV&I caseworker's point of view. Will the newly married spouse of a British citizen have stronger ties to the UK or to her country of habitual residence? Is there a chance that she may just decide to stay behind in the UK, whether legally or illegally? It would be likely that the caseworker will decide that the newly married spouse may just decide to stay behind and so they (the caseworker) will likely decline the visit visa.

It may be better to go straight for a spouse visa, if both partners meet the requirements.

Agree with what you all are saying , I ve lived in UK since 2004 and have never broken any immigration rules , My family has been to uk multiple times on visitors visa and have never over stayed. These are the points I ll be mentioning in the cover letter , Why would we jeopardise our future stay in uk by breaking immigration rules. I just dont want to wait 3- 4 months for a spouse visa , I miss my wife and want to be with her asap. Separation will be a bit easier for us 6 months down the line when she needs to return to India for change of visa then .

Will do , Looks like i ll need to get some more opinions on this for elsewhere. We are also not sure if we want to settle in uk permanently as we are considering relocating to India in a year or so ( big if ), another reason why I dont want to go ahead with spouse visa yet until we are absolutely sure.
