Cohabitation visa / work permit

Post by gal2528 » Mon Nov 03, 2008 1:08 pm

I apologize if this has been answered already .. I just cant find the answer.

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 3 1/2 years and are seeking to be together finally. He is a current EU National of Belgium and I a US National. We would like to do the cohabitation visa in the coming months but are unaware of the working rights that I would have moving to Belgium. I have read so many conflicting things online and have read all the embassy websites have to offer but not one gives a definitive answer to the question of whether I can work once in Belgium. I know upon arrival I have to register in the commune of where he lives within 8 days and that will give me a temporary resident permit but does that give me the right to work? I dont have skills in high demand as I am an Administrative professional with no degree and no other language but English but I do have over 14 years of experience in the Administrative area. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated .. or other tips and advice.

Thanks in advance.

It would all be under Belgian Immigration Law not EU so let's hope some Belgian Nationals can help here!
