Irish Naturalisation - how long before docs returned?

Post by lukk » Fri Mar 25, 2022 5:18 pm

Hi,

How long does it usually take for INIS to send back the documentation including the passports?

We have two trips booked - returning from the first one on 22-Apr and departing for the second one on 6-Jun. We'd like to apply in between those trips and make sure that the passports are back in time for the June trip.

We would be applying for Irish nationality
a) based on 3-year marriage to an Irish citizen and
b) minor in custody of an Irish citizen - the form clearly states that the original passport of the minor needs to be sent in

thanks

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean here.
a) They want you to send a certified passport copy, not an actual passport, since Jan 1st (see https://www.irishimmigration.ie/new-imm ... announced/)
b) You're not getting anything back (besides passport, if you submitted one).
the form clearly states that the original passport of the minor needs to be sent in
I honestly think they haven't fixed this form since the changes were in effect.

Approximate time for passport returns may vary from a month (just passport) to 4 months (with application number and all), but as I said, don't think you need to send it.

Send an email to citizenshipinfo@justice.ie and ask about minors and their passports I'd say.

And that
4 months (with application number and all)
may or may not be the case, might still get just a passport in 4 months.

thanks both, I think you are correct, they haven't updated the form for the minors and I don't need to provide the original. I'll email them in any case and will post an answer here.

I got a reply from DFA and indeed they simply haven't updated their forms. no need to send in the original passports

Awesome news!
Now you just need to gather documents to rack up 150 points this year (I assume that since there is a "Minor" column, you need to use Scoreboard approach) and send all this to Tipp.

There is no need for the minor to rack up any points. One needs to provide letters from the school thought with attendance stats etc.

just in case you struggle to rack up 150 points (as an adult applicant) my reading of their announcement is that that you can still apply if you have less but it will just require engagement with their department. So if you are short on the point just provide any other supporting documentation that can be the evidence of your residency. We are in this situation with my wife's application.
