Non-EU Member married with German immigrating to Ireland

Post by rflopes » Fri Apr 15, 2022 6:33 pm

Hi All. I’ve been married to my German wife for 13 years now. Over this time, had 3 awesome kids. And, for the whole period, we’ve lived in Brazil (where I’m from).
Now, we are planning to move to Ireland. She wants to stay closer to her family (spread across EU, with her Mom living in Italy).
And, I have a brother who already has been living in Dublin for 7-8 years and works in Banking.
The adaptation will be easier as we’ll have quick access to her mom, a family member living around and all of us already speak english.

My question is: how is the process and odds for me to get a permission to stay/work in Ireland?
Does my wife need to be established in Dublin before me? Like having a job ou a house before I can even apply for something?

We do well in Brazil and will have the means to support us for a few years.

You can just come with your wife with your marriage certificate. Remember to get a notarised English translation if your certificate wasn’t issued by an EU country. There isn’t any other work involved before you can come here, although you will want to secure some accommodation before coming here (this is just a recommendation, not a requirement).

Once you are here and find a place to live, you can apply for your residence permit under EU Treaty Rights. To do that, your wife needs to demonstrate that she is either going to work, study, or she is self-sufficient.

Thanks. Much simpler than I thought it would be. Great to hear. Appreciate the help.
