UK marriage visit visa

short version: is the UK marriage visit visa multiple entry?

long version: My fiance (UK) and I (US) are living in New Zealand. We'd like to travel to the UK to get married. It's a pain. It seems that if you want to do everything in a single visit, you have to be in the UK at least 22 (7 days residence + 15 days after giving notice) before the wedding. Is it possible to establish the 7 days' residence and give notice in a separate, earlier trip, and allow the 15 days to elapse whilst out of country?

Normally, they are Multiple Entry Visit Visas.
