ancestral visa

Post by rileyc » Thu May 19, 2005 1:35 pm

I have been in the uk for 8 months now as i had to leave south africa due to serious circumstances. When i entered the uk i had a temporary passport due to the fact that i had to leave with short notice. All i had was a visiting visa therefore i was only allowed to stay for six months, but because i could not go back to south africa i had to stay and now i have over stayed my stay in the uk.I now have my passport and i am looking to apply for an ancestral visa because my grandfather was born in the uk.Can you tell me what my chances are?

Nil. Go back to RSA and apply for an AV at the British Consulate in Pretoria. Only exception to an incountry switch is if there is a most compelling reason why:

1. You overstayed (severe breach of the immigration rules).

2. You can't go back to RSA.

Compelling in Home Office speak tends to mean as a minimum serious medical ailments, pregnancy, death in the family...etc....you get the drift.
