Passport Validity for Fiance Visa

Post by alex928 » Mon Jun 06, 2022 7:26 pm

Good evening all,

I hope someone can help with any information regarding how long an applicant's passport must be valid when submitting a fiance visa from outside the UK.

My fiance, who currently lives in Japan, has ~14 months validity left on her passport. She can renew her passport when there is <12 months validity left, but we would like to submit the visa application soon (hopefully within this month).

Does the passport need to be valid for x number of months at the date of application? Is there also a requirement that when the visa is granted there must be x number of months left on the passport? Common sense suggests the passport should be valid for at least 6 months when the visa is granted, as my fiance would be unable to leave the UK to renew her Japanese passport if this is not true.

I'm afraid I can't find this information online or on these message boards, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Online Bank Statements

Post by alex928 » Mon Jun 13, 2022 6:58 pm

Good evening all,

Just a quick question I hope someone can clear up. Currently applying for a fiance visa and I need to provide my bank statements for proof of salary. The FM-SE Appendix on the HO website states the following requirements:

1. In relation to evidencing the financial requirements in Appendix FM the following general provisions shall apply:
(a) Bank statements must:
(v) be:
(1) on official bank stationery; or
(2) electronic bank statements which are either accompanied by a letter from the bank on its headed stationery confirming that the documents are authentic or which bear the official stamp of the issuing bank on every page.

I've read contradictory advice on whether online copies of bank statements can be used. Some advice says this is fine to use, whereas my interpretation of the above requirements are that I need some sort of official document from my bank.

The online PDF statements look identical to the paper statements I used to receive, and show the bank name, address, account number and other details. However, the statement says 'Online Copy' at the very top. Would this still constitute being 'on official bank stationery' as above?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Everything is online now. Soft copies uploaded by yourself is all that is currently required.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Thanks, much appreciated.

I assume the Title Register for my house is also OK to order the £3 'online' version, rather than pay for a physical copy to be posted to me?

Thanks for the help.

I suspected this would be the case but it is always good to confirm.

Not required to be manually stamped.

I take it that the online statements meet the first requirement:

(1) on official bank stationery

even though they are tehnically electronic? For all intents and purposes they are on official bank stationery but just in PDF form.

I guess that the second requirements refers to if you generate your own 'mini statement' using online banking which is just a PDF of all transactions but doesn't have any other information such as account number, bank address, etc.

(2) electronic bank statements which are either accompanied by a letter from the bank on its headed stationery confirming that the documents are authentic or which bear the official stamp of the issuing bank on every page.

Please correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Your above summation appears correct.

After looking elsewhere online I have found the following requirements for bank statements:

EITHER
- Official bank statements received in the post (these do not need to be stamped)
OR
- official bank statements printed in-branch by the bank (these technically do not need to be stamped, but a lot of people get them stamped anyway
OR
- online statements printed at home that are EITHER stamped by the bank on every page OR accompanied by a letter from the bank confirming their authenticity

I'm going to be ultra cautious and go into my bank branch and get them to print off all the statements I need.

If anybody has applied using online statements (which clearly identify they are online copies) and successfully received a visa, I would like to hear.

Lots have used it and got successfull outcome to the application. You have seen the options and chose to go with what you are most comfortable with.
