drshashi wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 12:39 amHey all I am in a peculiar situation. My son has got a indian passport, he recently received his Naturalization certificate. Both me and my wife have Indian passports and I have ILR. He had to travel to India urgently, so we are travelling on my Son's Indian passport, as It says we can have 3 months grace period before we surrender Indian passport.
Now my question is
1) do I need to get Right to Abode stamping on my son's passport to get back to UK? How long does it take to get one? It takes up to 6 months.
2) Can I apply for British passport for him, from UK while he's abroad? and use the British passport to enter UK? This would mean that we are leaving the country with Indian passport and entering with British passport. Is that allowed. Sorry I am unable to get any answer from home office.People that have made straight forward applications in the UK are currently having extensive long waits for passport. Expect a very lengthy one for your son. You have to wait till he gets to India first, then he sends his passport down to you. HMPO can then see the Indian stamp on his passport showing that he's out of country. It hurts my head even thinking about the mess you could get entangled with.
Thanks
You need current passport as well. Not just the old one.drshashi wrote: ↑Sun Jul 17, 2022 1:28 amApparently you can't send your passport via courier. You need permission from Passport office. I'm planning to apply for his UK passport via 1 week fast track. I will be providing certified copies of current passport. I am hoping they accept it. I have his old expired foreign passport. Let's see fingers crossed.

That's the complexities I was talking about in my previous post. Not sure there's a passport fast track from abroad. It takes as long as it takes.drshashi wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:34 pmTicktack wrote: ↑Mon Jul 18, 2022 9:44 amYou need current passport as well. Hey thanks. I'm facing lot of Anxiety now with this situation. So they refused to take my child's application as the child is not in UK.That's correct, you can't act as a proxy for your son. To make an application here, applicant has to be here! Now if I apply for Right to Abode entitlement certificate, it might take a long time. I am worried he will miss out on his school. Is there any way we can get it sooner? Also passport advice helpline haven't been helpful, they initially said take copies of current passport, if they don't accept, apply for the passport from overseas. Now I don't know who to believe. Can I apply for UK passport from overseas, even though we don't live in that country?Yes, you can apply from any UK embassy at your (his) current location. It's very confusing.
Thanks for your reply mate. Is it okay to apply for UK passport from a country, where you don't live normally. Will they allow us to apply from that country, or will ask us to get CoE for Right to Abode. This is something not entirely clear.Ticktack wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 9:19 amThat's the complexities I was talking about in my previous post. Not sure there's a passport fast track from abroad. I hate to be a party pooper, but your son could be out of the UK for a little while.
Your child is Indian (heritage), with an Indian passport currently in India. In all ramifications, that's home!

Hey everyone I am pleased to inform that I received my son's CoE for ROA today. I am thrilled he can travel back with us to UK next week. I will be applying for British passport subsequently..
Just an info regarding timelines. I gave his biometrics on 29/07/22 from Chennai India.
Passport received by VFS on 18/08/22.
I did involve my MP to write a letter to Home office. Whether that played a part in speeding up the process, I am not entirely sure. I am just happy I received it.
Thanks to everyone who helped out..![]()
