Hello, my friend got ILR 8 years ago, but never applied for citizenship. Now she wants to apply for it. What documents are needed now to apply and to cover which years of residence? Thanks

Basic requirements - assuming UK ILR:
- Passport(s) covering residency period (5 or 3 years)
- BRP / or other evidence of ILR if no BRP
- English test (if not provided for ILR)
- LITUK test
- 2 referee declaration

Hello , thnks for reply. What i dont get is once a person has ILR then after 1 year they can apply for citizenship? Why they have to prove 5 years again even when they decide to apply for it years later? I don t know about this well this is why i am confused?

A UK ILR holder just needs to submit the passport(s) covering the residency period, not much paperwork.

Citizenship doesn't come under UK immigration rules unlike ILR, it has it's own requirements governed by the British Nationality Act and the discretionary powers of the Home Secretary. It's not another version of ILR....

The requirement is set by the act and the Home Secretary, and it's the responsibility of the applicant to supply the relevant paperwork, UKVI won't delve into immigration records themselves, except for validating applicants' claims.

Does your friend have concerns with the requirements? Perhaps you, or friend, could post specific questions here?

The application is very straightforward and requires only a minimum of documents.

Hello, she has been retired now for many years and not collected much bills, letters etc. So her passport is sufficient to show the residence? What other documents they may possibly ask , she is 75.

Passport might be sufficient to prove 5 year residency, if she's a non-EU passport holder. Hence her passport gets stamped every time she arrives in the UK (Except she uses the E-gates as well, maybe American, Australian etc).

If she doesn't get stamped when she comes in, then she's about to get busy.

As advised by alterhase58, she would need P60's, letters from current or previous employers, documents to validate that she has been in country.
