Critical Skills Work Permit - Help in filling out job responsibilities

Post by phillippe » Mon Aug 15, 2022 10:28 am

Hello All,

I got a job as Network Infrastructure Engineer in Cork. I checked SOC code and network engineers comes under 2139. But I am facing some difficulty in filling out the application form, especially the job description and the skills required part.

Since I am in Networks and Infrastructure. I deal with the technologies most of the time, which we basically say as acronyms or technical jargons. Eg: VPN, MPLS, Virtualization, split tunnel connectivity, providing L3 firewall troubleshooting etc

I am concerned if the visa officers might be able to understand them if I write all those technical details in job responsibilities and skill required for job and reject the application.

I spend my whole weekend trying to get some information on internet and on DETE website. But they have not mentioned how or to what extend we should explain job description. Only information I found was majority of job responsibility should match with the associated SOC code.

Atlast I came up with 2 ideas:

1, Only write simple terms in application leaving out all buzzwords and jargons. But it makes my job responsibilities look really simple like anybody could do it. Eg: Manage and maintain VPN. Provide support to client and business partner etc.

2, Write a technically indepth job description which shows the complexity of the work I am doing. Then add a cover letter to the application which gives a basic introduction to what a network infrastructure engineer is and then mention more technically indepth information is given in application. Also give explanation of the acronyms I used in applciation, so It will give the officer some context or idea about what i do. Also mention if they need clarification feel free to contact me.

Thanks in advance

Shouldn’t your HR be more familiar with what’s required in a work permit? They should be able to fill the application form out.

Ideally you should just copy whatever is described in your contract. You need a bit in-depth description without too much technical jargon.

The main HR left the company recently and the other HR never have done a CSEP application before. We both are doing research on how to submit it. Tried contacting a few immigration solicitors, most of them are asking 1200-1500EUR for filing the application, which I cant afford right now tbh.

I will go with medium level complexity in application, also include a cover letter just to be 100% sure

Thanks for the info mate :)

Yeah the application process is quite straightforward. There is no need to pay a solicitor that amount of money for that.

As for the job descriptions, if you find it hard to strike a balance, just go for full technical details. They won’t reject an application because they can’t understand what’s involved in it, but they will reject an application if there’s too little information.
