First Passport Application

Post by Calligrapher » Tue Aug 30, 2022 1:48 pm

Hi-
I also have a query regarding my first passport.
I was naturalised at the end of April but haven't been able to apply for a passport until now.

In my application it there are some questions which I cannot answer. Please help!

Section 4 - Parents details.

-Date of marriage.
I simply don't know the exact date, just the year. I cannot ask my parents any longer as they have both died.

Section 8 - More information

In my guidance booklet it states: Grandparents' details if both parents named in section 4 were born were born abroad.
Then it asks for full names, dates of birth and places of birth.

First of all my grandparents always lived in Germany. Secondly I have only a sketchy knowledge of their full names, dates of birth (only approx.) and no knowledge of their places of birth!

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Tanja

It's not a requirement for your passport issuance. The form is a one size fits all, and it tries to cover all scenarios.

Your citizenship isn't based on heritage. You're naturalised.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Thank you Ticktack. Much appreciated.

I have a further question. As I shall be going abroad on Oct 27th, return Nov 19th I am wondering whether there is enough time to apply for my British passport?

Alternatively, what documentation would I need to reenter the UK or even the plane in Nepal for my return flight to the UK? Would my certificate of naturalisation and my Canadian passport be sufficient documentation?

Many thanks in advance.

Tanja

There are massive passport delays currently. Not sure it would pan out. You're better off applying when you have 3 months to spare. Officially it around 10 weeks wait, could easily be more.

Alternatively, what documentation would I need to reenter the UK or even the plane in Nepal for my return flight to the UK? Would my certificate of naturalisation and my Canadian passport be sufficient documentation? Canadian passports don't need a visa to enter the UK. It would be fine. Hold on to your naturalisation cert. It would not be required as you can use the e-gate, but just In case.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Ticktack-

Thank you. I shall hold off for now.

Could you please clarify your below sentence:

It would not be required as you can use the e-gate, but just In case.

What do you mean by "just in case"?
And what's the "e-gate" please?

Many thanks.

"eGates" are unmanned automated entry gates at many airports these days, i.e. you put your passport into scanner and a camera compares your face to your passport photo. Sometimes it doesn't work and you'll be processed manually by the attendant, therefore it would be good if you have your naturalisation cert to hand to prove you are British.
