(UK) Marriage Visa Query

Hello everyone!

I'm at my wits end here to find this out and wondered if anyone here can help me.

Me and my partner (USA Citizen) are planning to marry in the UK next year.
I understand he will need to have a marriage visa to both Give Notice to my local council, as well as for the actual Wedding.

Since giving notice will be several months before the wedding, he will be flying back to America as he has full time employment.

My query is, can my partner visit the UK TWICE on the same visa, both to give notice and then to get married?
If not, I then assume we need to have two separate visas per trip (which costs money each time to acquire, would rather avoid this).

If not, I then assume we need to have two separate visas per trip (which costs money each time to acquire, would rather avoid this).
