First Passport Documents Query

Post by mental4vray » Tue Oct 18, 2022 12:14 pm

Hi,

Can anyone please confirm what documents do I need to send while applying for my kid's first British Passport if both parents were British Citizens when the kid was born. She was born in May 2021.

I am not sure if I can just send the birth certificate or do I also need to send my ILR BRP from 2019 which I have retained as a proof for my first kid's citizenship claim.

Thanks

ILR is not useful at this juncture as you were British when your child was born. You need to send either your British passport or your wife's British passport or naturalisation cert.
This would go alongside with child's long birth certificate and any other passports if any.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

If a parent was a British citizen when the kid was born, send in the naturalisation certificate. BRP is not needed.

Thank you

The application form asks for the British passport numbers for both parents. Is that sufficient or I would still need to send my original passport?

Only send in what the form asks. If it asks the passport numbers put them in, but if the checklist at the end only asks for the naturalisation certificate you don't need to send in your passport. The checklist will be shown by the system before you pay.

Both passport numbers are requested whilst filling the form. You would be required to send your physical passport when sending documents to HMPO.

The form kickstarts the process. The physical is the verification process.
