UK ILR BRP expires renew|replacement|travel outside UK

My BRP expires in MAY 2023. I'm planning to apply in FEB 2023. Will I be able to travel outside UK and return back within MAY after applying for BRP renew?

Can someone please tell me if we need to submit our passport and the old BRP at any point during BRP renewal.

Basically once I have made the application, can I still travel if my old BRP is still valid?

Suggest you apply now - application could take up to six months going by various postings here.
Until expiry you are free to travel, but clearly make sure you are not abroad when it expires, carriers are likely to refuse boarding.
