Naturalisation - Answering 'Are you employed?'

Post by philip511 » Fri Nov 18, 2022 11:54 pm

Hi!

I am currently in the naturalisation application process and I am not sure how to answer the 'Are you employed?' question.

I am in a quite peculiar situation, as I have signed the employment contract but my job will start in September 2024. Right now, I am not working.

And so, I would like to ask - am I employed for the purpose of the naturalisation application when I have a confirmed employment in the future?

Thank you very much in advance!

No you are not. And being employed is not a requirement for naturalisation so your answer will not have a negative impact on the application.

A contract of employment normally specifies a start date - it's that date from which you are employed, paid and taxes accounted for. So no is fine - as said employment is not a mandatory requirement. Unemployed, students, homemakers, pensioners apply and are approved if they satisfy the requirements.

Earliest Day to Apply for Naturalisation

Post by philip511 » Wed Nov 23, 2022 4:01 pm

Hi

My ILR was approved on 24 November 2021. I am aware that I can only apply for naturalisation one year after I live in the UK without any restrictions.

And so, I would like to ask - will 24 November 2022 (tomorrow) be the earliest day I can apply for naturalisation? Or 25 November 2022?

Best,
Phil

I would opt for 25th.
And take it easy when filling in the application. There’s no point rushing.
