Proof of living in the UK for 5 years

Post by mksoi » Tue Nov 29, 2022 2:11 pm

Hi there,

I am applying for the UK nationality for myself, my wife, and my kid. I have another kid who has already got it as he was born here in the UK.

I have a question regarding the following point:
Proof of living in the UK for 5 years if applying in your own right or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen

I have seen several posts about it in this forum and all say that it has to be the passport.

Now the issue is that I have all of my passports and it is the same for my kid, however, out of the three passports that my wife had during this 6 years (Jan 2017 - Jan 2023), we only have two:
1- One issued at 01/2011 and expired at 08/2018 (available)
2- One issued at 01/2019 and expired at 06/2021 (only a copy of the first two pages)
3- One issued at 04/2021 and expires on 04/2027 (available)

My wife was not working during this period and the only documents that I have is the bills, and few NHS letters. In addition, our baby (who has already got the nationality) was born here in 09/2018

What do you advice to answer the question? Having in mind that we have entered the UK in Jan 2017 and we got the ILR in Jan 2022 (5 years). My wife has the following trips outside the UK during this 6 years:
1- 29 September 2019 - 14 November 2019
2- 5 July 2022 - 5 August 2022

Many thanks

For non-EU, passport is always the easy way to prove residency as you get stamped in and out. Submit the passport details that you have for your wife. Explain all these (above) in a cover letter.

Truth be said, The HO has all this on record, they just like to compare notes.

She would be fine, no biggie at all.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!

Thank you Ticktack,

Yes, this is for non-EU.

Passports are not stamped on exiting the UK. Only on entering it as I remember.

So you think a copy of the first 2 pages of the passport (which we currently have) along with a cover letter should suffice, right?

Many thanks

So you think a copy of the first 2 pages of the passport (which we currently have) along with a cover letter should suffice, right? Yeah, it seems the passport was lost as it only lasted 2 years (just guessing). Cover letter would do a great job. If you have copies of her itinerary when she travelled during the period of that middle passport, you can add that to the mix.

Many thanks

Many thanks Ticktack, that was really helpful.

I would like to ask any other member of whatelse I can include instead of the missing passport.

Ticktack has suggest the tickets, which is really good. I am also planning to add NHS letters. Not sure whatelse could be added to avoid any sort of missing clues to proof the 5 years period.
