Hi,

My wife and I got ILR on 28-03-2022.

We came to the UK on 10-5-2017.

A.) When can we apply for British citizenship? I know it’s after 12 months from ILR but my question is that can I apply a few days before 28-03-2023? Or it has to be on this date or after this date.

B.) Does hiring a lawyer for this application make any impact on decision?

C.) How long is the usual timeline? It says 6 months on the website but just wanted to know in reality how much time does it take for most people.

There's no concession like with immigration; naturalization application is different. You have to apply after 12 months of holding ILR and after living in the UK for 5 years, so you can't apply on 28/03/22, as you will be more than a month short from your date of arrival in the UK -> won't be living in the UK for 5 years on the date of application. No idea, but most likely, no. You can fill out the forms yourself, asking advice on the forums.

Thanks for the response but I think you got the dates wrong.

I moved to the UK on 10/05/2017 and got ILR after 5 years on 28/03/2022

Now after 12 months I.e 28/03/2023 can I apply for citizenship? Can I apply before this date?
