Advice

Post by Faithful1000 » Sun Dec 25, 2022 4:12 am

Hello there. I have a question to ask, please. I live here in the UK, originally from Nigeria

I was once an asylum seeker refugee. I was first given 5years as a refugee, and after that, I have my indefinite leave to remain (Refugee settlement). And now I just had my British passport, a British citizen.

My question is, can I visit my country (Nigeria) for a short holiday to see my family and to take my kids too to know where originally their mum came from? And do I need a visa?

As a British citizen you can travel to any country you wish - British citizens need a visa for Nigeria: https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advic ... quirements.
Do you still hold Nigerian citizenship, i.e. you hold dual nationality? Please take note of this statement from the UK government (https://www.gov.uk/dual-citizenship): "As a dual national you cannot get diplomatic help from the British government when you are in the other country where you hold citizenship."
I'm not saying you will have a problem but be aware of this.

Thank you for replying. I do not have a Nigerian passport or any other country passport except my British passport.
I have not been to Nigeria since I step into the UK 18yrs ago.

Many thanks
