Congratulations! I'm applying through a Grandparent too and understand how reading those words would resonate with you. I'm hopeful that I get to read those words and feel those feelings, one day soon. All the best to you.xRGHx wrote: ↑Wed Jan 25, 2023 1:50 pmWoke up to the best email! I am a bit surprised with how emotional it made me feel...I'm so grateful to my Grammy for the gift of her lineage and culture. I was a Dec 2020 applicant, with a request for an additional document (I had sent my Mother's proof of death certificate, not the civil death certificate) in mid November 2022....so all told I'm just over two years. Hope the wait for the actual certificate and my documents back isn't too long!

I received my passport in the mail yesterday so I am back with my final update:tullgor wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 3:02 pmJust received confirmation that my application has been approved and my certificate will be printed and mailed! I am stunned!tullgor wrote: ↑Wed Oct 26, 2022 1:20 pmI finally got my address confirmation this morning!
Application submitted online: Sept 29, 2020
Application received: Oct 7, 2020
Address confirmation: Oct 26, 2022
Thanks for everyone on this board who fed my FBR updates addiction.I will update when I am approved. Best of luck to everyone still waiting!
Yes, the passport application is online. As long as you have confirmation you are added to the FBR, you're fine to apply. It's just your info, uploading a picture and then paying the fee. You can also gather the necessary docs for identity and proof of address. As soon as you get your Cert, you can add it to the docs and send it back off to Ireland.IdaCanada wrote: ↑Thu Jan 26, 2023 1:40 pmThanks to this fourm I’ve been following for years and it’s really helped understand the situation.
Final update:
Application submitted online: 05/19/2021
Documents received at Balbriggan: 03/02/2022 (I waited due to COVID)
Confirmation of address email: 01/27/2022 (Responded with 1 hr)
Congrats email: 01/27/2022 (got confirmed 3hrs after confirming my address)
I will say, the package sent was very “clean”. When they asked for 1 proof of address, we sent 2 notarized copies for example. We tried to make it easy
They said certificates will be mailed in 4 weeks but my understanding is I can apply for the passport even without that in hand?
Submit marriage and or divorce certificates with your application.Tell32 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 9:51 pmHello friends, this is my first time on the forum. I'm seeking information on whether or not I need to provide the marriage certificate for my parents and grandparents.
Based off information I read on the official website (https://www.dfa.ie/citizenship/born-abr ... ign-birth/) and information from this video I watched (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOOR0KQ_pWY) It seems like you only need to include the marriage certificate if there was a name change that caused the names on my birth certificate or my parents birth certificate to be different. Is this correct?
In my case, since I'm submitting my application based upon my Dad and Grandpa's birth certificates, and there was no first name or last name changes, I would not need to submit the marriage certificates?
I recommend to send them since a marriage certificate is an official document that will show the age & name of your parent & the name of your grand fathers that will match the birth certificates of 2 generations of people helping the DFA establish a link between the peoples mentioned.Tell32 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 29, 2023 9:51 pmHello friends, this is my first time on the forum. My envelope arrived today (UK), measuring 324x256mm. Just a regular envelope, not hard backed. It contained 2 A4 plastic document sleeves, one containing a congratulations letter and the certificate and the other with my original documents (birth/death certificates, proof of address etc but not my original cover letter or notarised copies of documents). Together the whole thing is quite bendy, certainly our local postman got it through the letter box without damage. The envelope was marked 'Registered Post. Signature Required' but it was just put through the door.cyforcypher wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 8:57 pmHi there! It's exciting to see how fast things are moving along! I applied in late August and had a couple questions:
First, I'm just wondering about the dimensions of the envelope the FBR certificate comes in. Is it folded, regular letter size, or a bigger envelope? The former would fit in my mailbox, the latter would not. I'm wondering because from what I'm hearing, signatures are no longer required, and my apartment is a hot spot for porch pirates, so I'm a little paranoid it would get stolen. ('Tho I guess large envelopes are less likely to be stolen.)
Second, does anyone know if it's possible to pick up their FBR certificate in person? Judging by the current timeline, I will be travelling in Ireland near the time the certificate is ready.
Thanks, and best wishes to you all!
I personally having lived in Ireland for 20 years wouldn't personally recommend that..but I would get the FBR cert private couriered to your country as its international. I am sure the DFA can arrange that once they have it printed provided you pay of course.cyforcypher wrote: ↑Mon Jan 30, 2023 8:57 pmHi there! It's exciting to see how fast things are moving along!
