Child Born In India Applying for British Citizenship

Hi Admin,

Me & my family (Wife/Child 10 years old) are on ILR from past 7 years.

- Child was born in India (2012) when I was on Tier 1 General Visa.
- Brought my child to UK in (2012) on dependent visa.
- In 2015 we all were granted ILR status

- I am currently applying for British Citizenship via the Online application.
- In my application in have added both my wife and child as additional applicants

Now the question is:
- Am I doing the right thing by applying for my child in the same application ?
- I am very much confused with the MN1 form for children under 18. Does this apply for my child ?
- Should I be making a new application for my child ? If So should that be a normal application or anything different ?
- Who is supposed to apply under MN1 form ? (I read all the guidance but ended up confused)

- Am I doing the right thing by applying for my child in the same application ? You can apply for your child together with your's & wife. No issue.
- I am very much confused with the MN1 form for children under 18. Does this apply for my child ? Yes, children are registered with form MN1
- Should I be making a new application for my child ? No - At the end of your and your wife's application you "add" another applicant under age 18 and the system will adjust to MN1 formt. If So should that be a normal application or anything different ? Adults naturalise (AN), children register (M1).
- Who is supposed to apply under MN1 form ? (I read all the guidance but ended up confused) For MN1 it's the child who applies, so all questions will be asked from the child's perspective.

Hi Admin,

As explained in my previous post i am applying for naturalization as UK citizen for my child (Age 11) along with my AN application.
- Earlier You did mention that my child can be added in the same application and that will be converted into MN1 form.
- I did fill the application and every thing went well but i did try to compare the MN1 form against the AN form and the questions /details asked in MN1 form are bit different to AN form for children.
- Like time of absence is are asked in AN form for children, The Grandparents details are not asked too.
- Should this be anything to be worried about please ?
- As you know, one of the referees needs to be someone who knows them in a professional capacity e.g. teacher, Doctor etc. I have approached the school requesting for the reference and they were not happy to provide the details. All this has happened verbally though. As per the guidelines if we are not able to aquire the reference then we are supposed to provide the proof of approach.

- NOW the question is what proof can i provide that i have approached the school ?
- If i am not able to provide the proof of it will there be any issue ?
- On other hand I do have the normal reference form from British citizens for the whole family

- I have submited the application and i am in the process of uploading the documents at present.
- Is there any rule that the date on the reference form should be with in certain limit i.e not more then XX days when submiting the document ?

I may have explained that when you add a child the system adapts to the MN1 format. Note children are not naturalised (which is for adult) but are registered as British citizens. So nothing to worry. There a fewer requirements for children…

Referees for children are a common issue, UKVi are aware of this. Use your referees and explain what you are doing in a covering note.

Documents don’t have to be dated same as application date. As long as within reason, there’s no definitive guidance for this.
