What was your immigration status in the past five years? Were you at any point illegaly in the country?

Miss Lovely, you really do need to tell us your full UK immigration history. In particular, at what point in time did you claim asylum? Was it immediately on arrival at the Port of Entry? Or did you arrive in the proverbial back of a lorry, and then claim asylum some time later? If so, how long was it between you entering the UK and later claiming asylum?

Or did you arrive legally in the UK, on a visa, and then claim asylum before the expiry date of that visa?

Sorry about that, l didn't explain fully. l arrived in this country in 2001 on a visitors visa and claimed asylum 8 months later. l would say they considred me as an illegal entrant that time. l was a failed asylum seeker for nearly 6 years. Was granted the permanent residence last year through the legacy cases. The status letter informed me that l was granted on the basis of being here for a long time. lts got nothing to do with asylum as l am required to use my passport from my country of origin.

So l would say l have been in this country for the past 5 years but as an failed asylum seeker.

Hope l've made my self clear now.

Thanks guys!!!

So the visitor visa was for 6 months, or less? So it had expired by the time you applied for your asylum? If that is the case making the asylum claim did not make you "legal". In fact you did not become "legal" until you got your ILR.

It would have been oh so different if you had applied for your asylum before the expiry of your visitor visa!

You do not tell us if you are married to, or in Civil Partnership with, a British Citizen. If the answer to that is "yes", then .... under current legislation .... you can apply for Naturalisation when you have had your ILR for 3 years ... if "no" then you will need to wait unril 5 years have passed from the grant of the ILR.
