Hey, ribbinne. Thanks for your reply. We may be in the same (or similar) boat. If so, I'd think there'd be many, many more here (more than it appears) with the same issues. If customs (and payment, specifically) is an issue. I'd like to find out WHERE in the chain this might be happening as a means to FIND my package. I mean, is it now in Ireland but in a pile of packages that they don't know what to do with or are waiting for someone to do something with? Or, is it being held at some intermediary point like London? Like I said in my original post, I don't think (at least through the departure airport here in the US, that there are direct commercial (with USPS mail on board per contract) flights from Cincinnati to Dublin. So, it'd have to go somewhere else first, like London.

I asked around and I believe my post clerk entered the information wrong. I can only keep an eye my email now for confirmation and hope it all works out.

In your case, USPS should be able to provide you with information on which agency yours was handed off to. I have an international e-commerce business, I've had a few parcels seemingly disappear once they made it to their European countries. After opening an investigation through USPS.com they were able to tell me which agency they handed over to and then I was able to get it started through them. Every time, it was a customs duty issue.

Thank you, rìbhinne. I've had an open inquiry for over a week. At one point it was marked "resolved" without it being so (or anyone telling me how they arrived at that status). But it's been reopened and assigned to someone. I'll work the angle that you suggested. It seems to me that is the issue.

I requested a replacement FBR back in September of last year for my fathers. We have been waiting since so I called on 02/17 and was informed they aren’t even processing replacement requests. The employee said they’d hope to resume before the end of the year. Additionally, many on this forum never received their replacement requests from even years back. I hope to get the replacement someday so I can send in my own FBR application but man it could be a while. Good luck!

Hey, Ssgogo. That's not good news for anyone who is looking for a replacement FBR certificate. I can understand that they'd prioritize first time applicants--especially given the backlog that they'd had for a few years. It appears they're through that, essentially, so I would think they could turn their attention to the replacement requests now. Presumably (in theory) these are going to be addressed "in date order" of receipt--though we've seen with first time applications that there can be tremendous variability in how different applicants proceed (even with the apparently same application conditions). At any rate, unless my passport documents turn up, I don't see that I have any choice. I will be in Ireland this summer, but I believe that they do NOT deal with people in person. Though, if I'm a citizen, I don't see why I couldn't get the same passport services that a resident citizen would if I'm physically present in country. I've not looked into what in-person services they have. I'm guessing I'm probably sufficiently different as a category of citizen (non-resident at least) that I'd not qualify for any such service.

I’ll say I hope they are back to processing replacements! I’ve been trying to call the FBR line to confirm they have the supporting documents and application in queue. It’s certainly most unfortunate for my father who is unable to renew his passport without the FBR replacement and wants to travel to Europe soon.

That said, they may not keep up this pace and who knows what kind of staffing they'll have going forward. At any rate, it is an unfortunate state of affairs for anyone needing the certificate. Does anyone know how much it will cost to get a replacement and how long I'll have to wait? Surely it can't be another 2 years as I already have citizenship.

Also, will I be able to get a refund on my passport application, or can I still use the current application when my replacement certificate arrives?

You should get a refund on the passport fee if the application isn’t completed in six months, it’s automatic. As for the replacement certificate you can read my threads above. I have been waiting for a replacement certificate since 17th September 2022. I contacted the FBR office yesterday and was told they will resume printing replacements in October of 2023. We have no idea how back logged the replacements are so I may not get mine for months after October and I can’t imagine how long new replacement applications will take. I wish you the best of luck though! It is ridiculously unfortunate that the Royal mail lost your FBR and you are now stuck with this.

Are you certain it's lost? Have you tried putting your Royal Mail tracking number in the An Post mail tracker? Have you checked the status of your passport application to see if the documents have been received by the DFA?

Hi guys. For the passport application in the UK can I use a solicitor to certify a photocopy of my driving license? I don't want to send my original passport as seen people losing it in royal mai.

Also are there any other decent postal services to get it to Ireland? I was thinking of RM tracked and signd but now not so sure.

I got The Post Office to certify a copy of my UK Passport, Driving licence & an I.D card all for about 12 quid. I assume it was acceptable since my status changed from 'verifying documents' to 'application is being processed'. And Royal Mail took about 27 days to get a letter from England to Ireland

Are you certain it's lost? Have you tried putting your Royal Mail tracking number in the An Post mail tracker? Have you checked the status of your passport application to see if the documents have been received by the DFA?

I can’t say they are still doing that, but, after I got that I received the return of my packet of docs really fast.. I was surprised by it, actually. And you’ll need some of those for your passport. I submitted my online passport on 1/23/2023. Then sent the necessary documents, which on the passport tracking site told me they got them. My potential passport date was today March 22, 2023. So 2 months from the initial application (with extra paperwork, FBR etc.). Now, I await the mail. Be sure to follow all the directions. It wasn’t very hard. On a ridiculous note… I submitted my US Passport online for RENEWAL the same day. Jan. 23 2023. It STILL says “in process” 2 months later and I paid for it to be EXPEDITED (5-7 weeks). If my Irish passport arrives before my US renewal… I will laugh hysterically. And then demand my expedited money back!!! Hope you documents arrive soon!!! Congratulations!!
