Hi
I just attended my naturalisation ceremony today and went straight to post office to submit my current South African passport via the check and send service. I think it will be mailed tomorrow morning, I got an email already asking me to upload supporting documents as follows:
Applicant’s documents
Send the following:
full birth or adoption certificate
the passport used to enter the UK
any current or expired passports from other countries that haven’t been cancelled
Parents’ documents
For 1 of your parents, send 1 of the following:
full birth or adoption certificate
naturalisation or registration certificate
If you’re sending your father’s certificate you’ll also need to send:
father’s marriage or civil partnership certificate to your mother or parent 1
=====
The problem is my unabridged South African birth certificate original was stolen, I only had certified copies. I think it can take up to 6 months to get a new original. I can obtain an original birth certificate from my mother,
Questions:
- Should I just send a certified copy of my birth certificate? Will this be accepted? They do say 'original documents' only
- Should I retract my passport application? I could phone tomorrow before they mail my current SA passport in. Because if it goes in and it takes me a long time to provide the supporting documents + with the strikes, I am worried of being stuck with no passport at all so I cant travel even back to SA
- Anyone else submitted these types of supporting documents, which seem to be required if born outside the UK? Strange for them to come up, havent had to use them in ages
