Regarding Driving Offence

Hi All,

Helping a friend to fill in an application and wanted to see if he needed to declare a motoring "offence".

He got done for speeding in Coventry. Doing 72 in a 60 around 3 years ago and he took the awareness course and paid the fine (Course fee). And that was the only time been dealt with by the police. I am not sure if this count as a motoring conviction and more importantly, does he need to declare it on his visa application? If so, what do I call this?

A speed awareness course is not a fine. If it’s your first offence you are let off. Ok you have to pay the course fee. But you don’t have to disclose it’s not registered by the police, not even to the insurance. For the second offence you will get points and a fine like I found out to my cost.
Presumably friend is applying for naturalisation?

Thank you alterhase58. Yes, he is applying for settlement and a bit nervous about not declaring this speeding thing as he believed he is guilty of a traffic offence. (He also ask me if he could consider himself a person of good character )

If it was his first motoring offence, in the letter he received from the police there should be a note saying that by accepting the offer of taking the course, no traffic offence would be recorded on his licence.
