getting spanish visa to travel to/from Spain by Ferry

Post by marock1 » Wed Apr 05, 2023 12:41 am

Hello,

I'm a British citizen and I'm willing to travel with my wife and kids to Morocco in summer (god willing).

The plan is to travel by car to Morocco by catching the ferry in July from Plymouth to Santander in Spain, and then drive through Spain to Morocco with the plan of coming back in late August to the UK.

The problem is that my wife has only the ILR and is not naturalised (yet). Now that she needs it with the Passport Office Strikes, it seems unlikely she's going to make it in July and we started thinking of the visa route.

Is it possible for her to apply to a Spanish visa as a workaround to mitigate the risk of not getting a british passport on time? If so which one should she apply for

Thanks in advance!

PS: my wife is Moroccan.

I guess you can either get French or Spanish Visa. You're entering (Schengen zone) through France and exiting thru Spain (departure) and vice versa (arrival). This would change if you're actually spending time in any of them.

To simplify it, why not just fly?

If they land in Santander by ferry, then France doesn´t come into it.

A Schengen visa from the relevant Spanish Embassy or Consulate would be the visa to apply for.

@ OP: I guess taking your own car to Morocco is the reason for driving?

On another note, you are only factoring in delays at the passport office, but how far along is your wife in the naturalization process at this point in time? Language/LIUK test, application with all supporting documents, citizenship ceremony? Only after all of that you can approach the passport office.
I am not a regulated immigration advisor. I am offering an opinion and not advice.

Correct, I somehow overlooked the ferry to Santander, Spain. I stuck with the normal practice of ferrying to France (tongue in cheek).

Spanish visa is the only Visa that the OP can apply for.
