Slightly Different Name Variations

Post by NYCStacey » Fri Dec 05, 2008 6:29 pm

Me & my dependent have slight variations on our names used...

One has two "last names" on the passport but in ALL US Documents, from state ID, to education qualification documents, to previous earnings documents, and bank statements, etc..) have only ONE last name, as in the USA only one last name is used.

The other has an asian name, which in the passport each "syllable/symbol" is separated by space, but in some US documents it has a hypen ("-") and in other documents it is spelled out all together.

As someone here suggested, we obtained a Name Affidavit stating that all of our different/varied names are one and the same person...

Has anybody else done this or is on the same / similar situation?
Which of all names should you put on your application, the one exactly matching your passport, or the one exactly matching ALL your other supporting documents?

Thank you.

Couple of my friends Tier 1 Visa ( HSMP ) got rejected due to differences in the names in passport and other certificates.so if your planning for the any UK visas please go through the rule and strictly adhire to the guideline and policy regarding the differences in name.

I haven't seen any official guidance on this topic.

Do you know where or have any links or specific info?

i looked around for another half hour... but didnt find any policy mentioned how to handle differing names. May name is not completely different, it's just that the passport has one additional last name than ALL my US documents...
I have a notarized name affidavit and an explanation on the difference, being that in the US there is no use/room for a second last name so when immigrating to the US it was not adopted onto any legal docs...etc...
still passport is not US, hence the difference...

If anyone finds any policy guidelines, please let me know.
