Implications for Indians if they are British citizen

Hi,

We are planning to take British citizenship. But both me and my spouse will inherit many properties, businesses and agricultural land in India. Currently our businesses are in parents names and will eventually get transferred to us.

Also we plan to spend our retirement life in India.

Could someone please tell us if it's wise to remain as Indian citizens or to move on to British citizenship. What are the disadvantages considering our Indian wealth? We know there are lots of advantages with being British citizens especially for tourism, but does it have an impact directly on our wealth in India?

Your tax status is dependent on your residency status in the UK. A UK resident will pay taxes on all the worldwide income. Whether you're becoming British or keeping Indian nationality won't help you in taxes if you live in the UK. If you have lived 15 years in the UK, you are deemed domiciled as well. Best to speak to a tax advisor and take tax advice on that matter.
